What started off as a website for students to connect at the Harvard University, is now one of the most used social media platforms! 14 years down the line, Thefacebook is now Facebook and has completely changed the way we live!

Today, on Facebook’s 14th birthday, we list below the luxury that Facebook brought to our lives.

Picture perfect!

The site introduced Facebook photos in October 2005, this was a year and a half after launch. Strange considering the site named Facebook didn’t actually feature a face until then.

Today, even though we sometimes don’t get time to meet friends or can’t meet them because they’ve relocated to a different country, we are updated about their lives with this feature. It’s almost like we virtually meet them in their photo and video updates.

News feed

Almost a year later, in September 2006, Facebook launched its ‘News Feed’ feature for every user. This feature helped people to track or be aware of what their friends were doing.

Facebook Chat

The ‘chatting’ app was being ruled by MSN before April 2008, when Facebook introduced its ‘chat’. What followed was 2008 witnessing one of the most used features of that year – the Facebook Chat! Even today, this feature is used very frequently for business and personal purposes.

While in April 2016, the site introduced Chat Bots for business pages. It’s automatic messenger giving out information and in some cases allows the user to interact with the company to get instant replies and queries answered.

‘Like’ it!

With the introduction of the ‘like’ button in February 2009, we have been blessed! Since then, we can show our appreciation and likeness towards what our friends have been posting and writing. It has led to an expressive response without needing to actually use any words.

It’s 2017, and we don’t necessarily need to ‘like’ an update, we can now ‘react’ to what we actually feel about the following options:

Smiley

What’s on your mind?

In 2009, the site also introduced ‘status update’ that we have been using to express our feeling and emotions. This hasn’t really changed since then!

Video Calling

In 2011, Facebook launched the Video Chat feature for its users powered by Skype. While in December 2016, Facebook enabled group video calling for up to 50 people. With Facebook introducing this feature, users didn’t have to download multiple apps and FB became a one-stop shop!

Check-in, recommendations and more!

In 2010, Facebook launched it’s ‘Check-in’ feature where users could use GPS on their phones to let friends know exactly where they are! And the very next year, it launched the feature to remind its users of their friend’s birthdays!

In 2014, Mark Zuckerberg, announced the launch of Safety Check on Facebook. This enabled users to mark themselves and their close ones as ‘safe’ in times of disasters and calamities. Thus, eliminating the need for users to individually ask their loved ones if they were safe.

While in 2016, Facebook came up with a ‘recommendation’ feature that allowed users to discover new places, events, things to do, and services around by asking their friends.

My memories

Day, month and season!

Quite recently, Facebook started reminding its user about what they did on the day, over the years or how they spent their holidays or just their month!

Facebook stories

2018 and joining the latest trend, Facebook now has the feature to add a Facebook story to a user’s account – similar to Snapchat and Insta stories!

Ordering food

Joining the leagues of Uber and Zomato, Facebook’s latest feature allows you to order food! Yes, you read that right. Facebook has been testing the food delivery service since last year. By adding a food ordering option, it gives users less of a reason to switch over to another app.

Over the years, Facebook’s evolution has been inspiring and we hope that this social media giant keeps growing and easing our lives along with making it so much fun!

Team Facebook, congratulations! What a masterpiece!
